A favicon (short for "favorite icon") is a small icon displayed in the browser tab, bookmarks bar, and search results. It enhances your brand and website recognition among users.


How to Create a Favicon?

You can create a favicon yourself using free online tools or hire a designer if you need a more complex design. In this blog post, we will go through the process of creating a favicon using a free online tool.


1.Go to favicon.io and click on “Generator”.


2.Choose the text you want to display (Text), the font (Font Family), font size (Font Size), and colors (Font & Background Color). You can see a preview of your favicon in the top-left corner. Once satisfied with the result, click "Download".



3.A .zip file will be downloaded, containing favicon icons in various sizes and formats. Unzip them.


Adding a Favicon to Your Website

Let’s go through the process of adding a favicon to an online store built with OpenCart.


1.Log in to your store’s admin panel. Go to "System" → "Settings" and click on the pencil icon to edit the site information.


2.Click on the "Images" section, hover over the icon, click the pencil icon, and upload the previously downloaded 32x32 px favicon file. Then click Save.


3.Clear your browser cache. Open your browser and go to "Settings" → "Privacy" → "Manage website data". Find your website’s data and delete it. Close your browser, reopen it, and visit your website. Now, your favicon should be visible. If it doesn’t appear immediately, wait a little longer and try again. Test the favicon in different browsers and devices to ensure it displays correctly.
